RISE Professional Networking and Learning Opportunities
RISE is about providing opportunities for you to grow as a DCPS teacher, assistant principal, and principal at a RISE school. Networking with one another is a critical component of empowering our people and supporting your growth as a professional. The current RISE professional networking opportunities are:
New Teacher Network
Novice and New-to-DCPS Teachers
The New Teacher Network is a series of professional learning and advising sessions on topics including: Educator Wellness, DCPS Priorities, Initiatives, and Systems; and Content-Specific Curriculum and Skills. Each Novice RISE Teacher is assigned a New Teacher Advisor to support them during the year.
Harvard Division of Continuing Education Professional Development for RISE Teacher Leaders
Teacher leaders with at least three years of experience
DCPS is partnering with the Harvard Division of Continuing Education to provide professional development to teacher leaders who are interested in building their leadership development skills, selecting one of the following courses:
- Becoming a Leader: Developing Your Style and Making Sound Decisions
- Building Organizational Cultures
- Managing Yourself and Others
RISE Exploring Leadership Cohort
Effective or Highly Effective teacher with three or more years of DCPS experience or a TLI or LEAP leader interested in moving into higher leadership positions.
Exploring Leadership will be a first step in building pipelines of teacher leaders ready to take on new challenges within their school and the District. Participants will leave the program with a strong sense of their personal leadership strengths, and a professional growth plan for the next 3-5 years. Educators most suited to this program will be those who are asking “what next?” as they think about their career at DCPS.
RISE Book Study Professional Learning Community
RISE Assistant Principals
Assistant Principals interested in building leadership capacity and the capacity of others can engaging in robust conversations with teachers and staff and facilitate small group discussions using a rich text on a topic of your choice that is relevant to your school community. A stipend and the text will be provided.
English Learner Empowered Professional Development
RISE Teachers new to the classroom or new to DCPS
Learn about strategies and resources for supporting English Learners, with a particular focus on teaching reading and literacy and creating a strong co-teaching team. Participants will receive resources from Lakeshore Learning.
